SAFE HAVEN HUMANE SOCIETY is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group in Michigan that rescues dogs and cats from a variety of abandonment situations. Funding for our rescue work comes entirely from donations by fellow animal lovers and fundraising events. No funding is received from any national, state or local organization, and there is no paid staff. All rescue work and re-homing of these abandoned pets is done by volunteers.
We work very closely with local animal shelters, many rural, in Michigan to pull pets in jeopardy of euthanasia due to lack of homes. Some of the pets coming into our program have serious medical needs that were not addressed by their previous owners. We try very hard to help these animals as funds allow and then place them in new permanent homes.
Safe Haven Humane Society has no central facility and all of our rescued animals are in foster homes so we are limited only by the number of foster homes we have available.
The battle against pet over-population is real and requires constant work. All of the pets Safe Haven rescues and places into new homes are spayed or neutered first. We also take every opportunity to educate the public about the importance of spay and neuter and when funds allow, we help others by subsidizing spay/neuter surgeries for those who cannot afford it.
